Human Rights
The CDC works closely with organizations like the ACLU and the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty to promote human rights education across the colonias in southern New Mexico. Community organizers at CDC regularly hold “Know Your Rights” workshops that incorporate information from these two organizations in order to inform all citizens in the colonia communities of their rights under the law. More trainings and workshops are being created and implemented now regarding the Racial Profiling Bill, which recently passed in the New Mexico State legislature, and will become law January 1, 2010.
Please see below for links to Know Your Rights brochures from the ACLU and NM Center on Law and Policy, and a copy of the HB 428, the Racial Profiling Bill. Also, if you have any interest in “Know Your Rights” workshops in your community, please contact the Veronica Carmona at (575)647-2744. ACLU Know Your Rights Brochure
